The state pension age
The state pension age rises gradually and depends on when you were born — not the birth year alone, but a half-year window. This page shows the transition rows and explains what the most recent — and not necessarily final — age limit means.
The age rises by birth date, not birth year alone
The state pension age is fixed in half-year windows: two people born in the first and second half of the same year can have a different pension age. The table below shows the six fixed transition rows.
| Born | Pension age |
|---|---|
| Before 1 January 1954 | 65 years |
| 1954-01-01 – 1954-06-30 | 65 years and 6 months |
| 1954-07-01 – 1954-12-31 | 66 years |
| 1955-01-01 – 1955-06-30 | 66 years and 6 months |
| 1955-07-01 – 1962-12-31 | 67 years |
| 1963-01-01 – 1966-12-31 | 68 years |
| 1967-01-01 – and later | 69 years |

The newest age limit is not necessarily the final one
The newest cohort (born 1 January 1967 and later) has a state pension age of 69 years. That is the most recent age the Act has fixed — not a limit the Act declares final. The Act requires the age to be reviewed every five years from 2015, based on measured life expectancy at age 60, for cohorts born after 1962. A future cohort can therefore end up with a different age than the one shown here, once a new review is enacted.

Born before 1954
The oldest, non-stepped group — born before 1 January 1954 — has a state pension age of 65 years.

No route to draw earlier
There is no age reduction or early-payment route for folkepension. What the Act does offer is DEFERRING the claim past the state pension age (opsat pension, Kapitel 2 a) for a later, increased benefit — a separate scheme not priced on this page.

The residence requirement
The right to folkepension requires at least 3 years of fixed residence in the realm between the age of 15 and the state pension age. The full-rate pension requires residence for 9/10 of that period — for the newest cohort that comes to 48.6 years.
